With our divided politics, it’s hard to get 92% of Americans to agree on which way is up these days. But that was the percent of respondents who supported expanded background checks for gun purchases in a CNN survey this week.

And yet Monday when the Senate voted on doing just that, a mere 44% of Senators voted with the people and for Sen. Chris Murphy’s bill.
